“Playing drums is a full body experience. We get to dance, to sing, to interact and to lead. I have often come away from a Psalm Drummer gathering spent from playing but totally elated through encountering the presence of God.”
    Calum Rees, drummer, percussionist, teacher.

A Vision for Psalm Drummers [Oct ‘94]

CircleI was standing in a semi-circle with a number of other drummers. We were worshipping and declaring God’s kingdom, pounding our drums whilst singing [from Psalm 97], “The Lord reigns, let the earth rejoice.” My head was bowed because the light of God’s presence was so bright. Later in the dream I saw the word ‘PSALM’ written in capital letters. Around the same time I believe the Lord spoke, “it’s time to gather the drummers”. These and other events prompted a move in faith to start Psalm Drummers.

I believe God is restoring the drum to the Church (in praise and worship and more) and is calling drummers, both individually and corporately, to drum out a new beat - a beat that carries the heart and inspiration of the Holy Spirit. The purpose is to declare His presence. I have seen drumming to be a powerful voice for prayer and praise: it can unify the divided, encourage the disheartened, and stir up much needed courage within the Church in our times.
