Artist Spotlight - Gabriel Alonso Martinez

Gabriel was born in Annecy, France. His father, a drummer was his inspiration and at the age of eleven he started studying at the local conservatoire, being introduced to classical music. His passion for percussion grew and he was awarded the gold medal in percussion from Grenoble conservatoire. He then went to the conservatoire in Creteil, Paris where he also was awarded gold, and finally he got his place in the Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique in Paris, where he graduated with first class honours.
Gabriel now lives in England, and has worked with artists like Graham Kendrick, Gloria Gaynor, Songs of Praise, BBC, Geraldine Latty, Mark Beswick, Dave Bainbridge and many more.
Gabriel’s work with image and sound is a long standing passion. He has been composing music for films, cartoons and documentaries since 1994. Gabriel’s score for the film ‘The Forsaken Promise’ won him the gold award for best christian documentary of the year.
Gabriel (also a writer) has recently completed his first book entitled ‘Becoming The Person God Wants You To Be’ which, along with (his wife) Andrea’s album, is available via his website www.alonso.org.uk in both French and English.
Gabriel and Andrea live in West Yorkshire, where they serve at their local church ‘Five Towns Christian Fellowship’ in Pontefract.
